Bandits flee Ocala Wal-Mart with three cartloads of merchandise

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was called to an Ocala Wal-Mart on Thursday in reference to a grand theft that had taken place the week before.

After speaking with the loss prevention officer at the store, located at 9570 SW Hwy. 200, the deputy viewed surveillance footage of an incident that took place June 22 shortly before 1 a.m. The deputy saw two white females and one black female enter the store and select several items from the shelves. Those included:

  • A red Powermate generator ($344);
  • An inflatable pool ($19.88);
  • A four pack of battery-powered circular lights ($19.88);
  • A single battery-powered circular security light ($9.88);
  • A copper fit arm sleeve ($17.98);
  • Two pairs of men’s shorts ($36.84);
  • A pair of white beach sandals ($9.88);
  • A Swiffer duster ($14.97);
  • A black handbag with brown handles ($24.88);
  • A turkey club sandwich ($3.98);
  • A box of Genius-brand chai tea ($5.87);
  • A gray Russell-brand hat ($9.96);
  • A multi-pack of chips ($6.98);
  • A six pack of 24-ounce Mountain Dew soft drink ($3.64); and
  • A six-pack of Angel Soft toilet paper ($4.97).

At 12:40 a.m., the three women bypassed all of the checkout registers and attempted to leave the store through the grocery exit. The customer service manager and the assistant manager stopped them and asked to see a receipt. But they refused to produce a receipt so the sheriff’s office was called.

But prior to a deputy arriving, the woman got past the managers and left the store with three carts full of unpaid merchandise. They then left the parking lot in a dark-colored four-door hatchback-style vehicle, the report says.

The loss prevention officer provided the deputy with a copy of the surveillance video, as well as a receipt showing the merchandise taken was valued at $533.59.
