Man accused of battering wife at her parents’ house on Christmas morning

A Fort Lauderdale man is accused of battering his wife while they were in Belleview visiting her family for Christmas.

Darrell Rakesh Dinanath, 32, was charged with simple domestic battery after the incident, which happened around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday at his in-laws’ residence on SE 101st Avenue in Belleview.

The victim’s father told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy he was awakened by the sound of a disturbance in the living room between Dinanath and the victim. He said he didn’t see anything, but he heard what sounded like someone being thrown against a wall, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said she and Dinanath are in town visiting her family for Christmas. She said she and Dinanath stayed up all night drinking alcohol and wrapping Christmas presents. The victim said she became upset over another woman texting Dinanath and they got into an argument. She said Dinanath shoved her, causing no visible injury, the report said.

The victim’s mother said she and numerous other family members saw Dinanath and the victim arguing in the living room. She said Dinanath shoved the victim backwards, causing her to strike the end of a short foyer wall. The victim’s brother and his son gave similar accounts of the incident. The entire family said there have been ongoing physical disturbances, according to the report.

Dinanath denied striking the victim. He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was being held on $1,000 bond and is due in court Jan. 29 at 1 p.m.
