Ocala Symphony Orchestra offers behind-the-curtain experience through open rehearsals

In 2018, the Ocala Symphony Orchestra launched its new open rehearsal events for families and students at the Reilly Arts Center.

The free program provides an opportunity to see the Ocala Symphony Orchestra’s live rehearsals before a concert weekend. Open rehearsals also give families and students an opportunity to enjoy the symphony in a relaxed environment while getting an educational, behind-the-curtain view on how a symphony prepares for its opening night.

Those attending the events will hear from the conductor, learn more about the music and can attend at their own speed. Students of all ages and families are encouraged to enjoy the free rehearsals.

The events begin at 6:15 p.m. with pizza and drinks with rehearsals starting 45 minutes later. They include:

  • Friday, Jan. 17 – The music of Shostakovich, Kabalevsky and Khachaturian
  • Friday, March 20 – A tribute to the music of Beethoven in celebration of his 250th birthday
  • Friday, April 24 – The music of Tchaikovsky, Wagner and Strauss

The open rehearsals are sponsored by Duke Energy with special support from The David and Lisa Midgett Foundation; Drs. Betty Ann and Felipe Korzenny; and Stan and Martha Hanson. Those interested in attending should RSVP to Savannah@reillyartscenter.com.
