On Top of the World hosting students going head-to-head in STEM Fair

Hundreds of students will compete head-to-head during the Big Springs STEM Fair this Thursday at On Top of the World.

The event takes place at the retirement community’s Circle Square Cultural Center, located at 8395 SW 80th St. in Ocala. The public can view the projects free of charge on Thursday from 11:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m.

The annual Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Fair draws students from Marion and Sumter Counties, each displaying their own unique science projects. Individual winners from public, private, charter and home schools advanced to this regional level, with several dozen awards handed out in various categories.

Judging takes place Thursday, with winners announced Friday during a 7 p.m. awards ceremony in the Browne Greaton Cole Auditorium at Marion Technical Institute, located at 1614 SE Ft. King St. in Ocala.

Regional winners advance to the Florida State Science Fair in Lakeland, which will be held March 24-26. High School students selected as the top state winners then advance to the International Science Fair in Anaheim. Calif., which takes place May 11-15.
