The City of Ocala is preparing to host a ribbon-cutting event at the new general aviation terminal at Ocala International Airport.
The event will be held Friday, Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. at the facility, located at 1770 SW 60th Ave. The project broke ground in December 2018, was completed within 13 months and received the official certificate of occupancy in January.
The newly created 17,500-square-foot general aviation terminal includes office space for Sheltair Aviation, the airport’s fixed-base operator; airport administration; a large conference area; an executive conference room and three rental car companies (Hertz, Avis, and Enterprise). Office space is available for future tenants and a restaurant will be determined in the near future.
The official grand opening will include a ceremonial ribbon cutting with members of the Ocala City Council, Florida Congressional leaders, Sheltair representatives, airport board members and other honored guests. Proceeding the 4 p.m. ceremony, guests are invited to enjoy a walking tour of the new facilities lead by ambassadors from the Experimental Aircraft Association’s Ocala Chapter 812.
Funding for construction of the new terminal was made possible through grants received from the Florida Department of Transportation, the Federal Aviation Administration, airport funds and the City of Ocala’s partnership with Sheltair Aviation. The approximate total cost for the project was $7.3 million.
