An Ocala woman was arrested after a skirmish with a woman who didn’t like the way she talked to her grandmother.
Heather Marie Demby, 32, of NW 160th Street, was charged with simple domestic battery after the incident, which happened around 3 a.m. Wednesday at her residence.
Demby told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy she left the water running inside the residence and her grandmother wanted it turned off. Demby said the victim didn’t like the way Demby was speaking to her grandmother, so the victim charged towards Demby. The relationship between Demby and the victim was redacted from the sheriff’s office report.
Demby said the victim grabbed her by the neck and she pushed her away. Demby then changed her story, saying she pushed the victim first and then the victim grabbed her by the neck. She said she could breathe and talk the whole time and what the victim did was more like a push to the neck, the report said.
The victim said Demby left the water running in the shower and Demby’s grandmother asked for it to be turned out. The victim said she didn’t like how Demby spoke to her grandmother and confronted her. She said Demby pushed her with two hands to the chest and she pushed Demby back in self-defense. The victim Demby pushed her again, according to the report.
Demby’s grandmother said the victim confronted Demby about how she was speaking to her. She said Demby pushed the victim and the victim pushed back. Demby’s grandmother said Demby and the victim then grabbed each other by the shoulders and were pushing and pulling back and forth. She said the victim never grabbed Demby’s neck in any way, the report said.
Demby’s juvenile son said the victim approached Demby and Demby lunged a her, pushing her back. He said the victim grabbed Demby’s neck, but she could still breathe, according to the report.
Demby was placed under arrest and taken to the Marion County Jail. She was released Friday on $100 bond and will appear in Marion County Court on Oct. 23.
