A Belleview woman is accused of threatening a man with a baseball bat and ordering him out of a house she claimed to own.
A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded recently to the victim’s residence, where he said he was in his room talking on the phone when he heard a knock on his bedroom door. The victim said he asked who it was, and 38-year-old Shantauqua Honor James responded, “This is the owner,” according to the sheriff’s office report.
The victim said James started arguing with him over who had ownership of the residence. He said James grabbed a baseball bat and held it in her hand, saying, “Get out of my mother (expletive deleted) house,” and that she would hit him with the bat, the report said.
The victim said he and James were just feet from each other at the end of a narrow hallway. He said a witness was fixing a door nearby and told James not to do that. The victim said he was in fear James was going to strike him with the bat. He pointed to a baseball bat near the front door and said it was the one used in the incident, according to the report.
James told the deputy she was arguing with the victim over who owned the residence. She said, “I was trying to find my mother (expletive deleted) taser. I would tase his ass. This is my property,” the report said.
Asked if she had a bat, at first James said no. But when asked if the deputy would find a bat inside the residence, she said she grabbed the bat and held it but did not swing it at the victim. James said the victim was getting in her face but didn’t touch her. She said she didn’t touch him, either, according to the report.
James was charged with aggravated domestic assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. She was taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was released on her own recognizance. No court information was available.
