375-pound Belleview man arrested after alleged domestic violence spree

Christopher John Carrizzo

A 375-pound Belleview man is in the Marion County Jail after he allegedly battered a woman on multiple occasions, prevented her from getting medical treatment for her injuries, and smashed her phone to keep her from reporting the abuse to law enforcement.

Christopher John Carrizzo, 32, was charged with four counts of simple domestic battery and single counts of domestic battery by strangulation, tampering in a misdemeanor proceeding, and criminal mischief with property damage between $200 and $1,000. The incidents – two of which were partially caught on video – happened Sept. 4, 21, 24, 25, and Nov. 1.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy on Sunday about a history of domestic violence with Carrizzo. She said she never reported the incidents because he prohibits her from doing so and she is in fear of him, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said in the Sept. 4 incident, she and Carrizzo were arguing because he no longer wanted to go to dinner with the victim and her family. She said when she tried to grab a person whose name was redacted from the report, Carrizzo said she wasn’t taking her anywhere. The victim said she went to call the police and Carrizzo tried to grab the phone out of her hand, the report said.

The victim said she ran around the couch to grab the other person, and Carrizzo grabbed her by her hair, pulled her across the couch and snatched the phone from her hand, preventing her from calling 911. The deputy saw video footage from inside the residence that showed this information, according to the report.

The victim said on Sept. 21, Carrizzo became angry because dinner wasn’t ready and punched her three times in the face and choked her to where her ability to breathe was impaired. The deputy observed photos of the victim’s face from the incident that showed swelling ad bruising, the report said.

In the Sept. 24 incident, the victim said Carrizzo got upset with her for an unknown reason and punched her in the stomach and grabbed her hair. The deputy observed video footage from inside the residence of Carrizzo pulling the victim’s hair, according to the report.

The victim said the next day, on Sept. 25, Carrizzo came home and she was upset because he had been drinking. She said he grabbed a toy and “backhanded” her with it, resulting in a laceration to her left eyebrow. The victim said Carrizzo wouldn’t let her seek medical attention. She said she consulted with an online medical reporting system that advised her to obtain stitches, but Carrizzo refused to let her. The deputy observed a picture of the laceration to the eyebrow and the scar that is there now, the report said.

Finally, the victim told of an incident that happened Nov. 1 at an unknown location in Belleview. She said they were in their vehicle, on the way to the Market of Marion, and Carrizzo was upset about her contacting law enforcement the prior night at his mother’s residence, according to the report.

The victim said during the argument, Carrizzo smashed the victim’s black iPhone SE, worth about $499, against the vehicle’s dashboard. The deputy observed small shards of glass still on the victim’s dash and the scratch marks from the phone hitting it. The victim also provided photos of her damaged phone, the report said.

After being read his Miranda warning, Carrizzo denied ever being physical with the victim. He said she was possibly suffering from postpartum depression, according to the report.

Carrizzo is being held in the Marion County Jail on $4,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Dec. 8.
