Anthony man caught trying to smuggle crack into county jail

Wesley Leon Lindsey

An Anthony man being booked at the Marion County Jail for possession of cocaine and a crack pipe had another charge added when he reportedly tried to smuggle crack into the facility.

Wesley Leon Lindsey, 49, of 2370 NE 102nd Lane, was pulled over around 10 p.m. Friday or failing to come to a complete stop at the stop sign at NW 42nd Street and NW 27th Avenue in Ocala. A Marion County sheriff’s deputy ran a records check that showed Lindsey had a warrant out of Alabama with full extradition, according to the sheriff’s office report.

During the traffic stop, the deputy pick up a glass pipe from the center console and drop it between the center console and the driver’s seat. The deputy identified it as the pipe normally used to smoke crack cocaine, the report said.

The deputy found the pipe during an inventory search of the vehicle. After being read his Miranda warning, Lindsey admitted grabbing it and placing it between his seat in the center console. He also referred to it as a crack pipe. A field test of the pipe came back positive for the presence of cocaine, according to the report.

Lindsey was taken to the jail, where during the intake process, he was told to remove his socks and shoes so they could be placed into his property box. At that time, the deputy observed a small bulge in Lindsey’s right sock. Lindsey folded his sock over in a way to stop the item from falling out before he removed his sock. He then placed his sock in the box, the report said.

The deputy took the property box and unfolded the sock. Inside was a yellow wrapper containing a small rock-like white substance that tested positive for cocaine, according to the report.

Lindsey was charged with possession of cocaine, smuggling contraband into a detention facility, and possession of drug equipment. He’s being held on $5,000 bond. He’ll appear in Marion County Court on Jan. 5, 2021.
