An Ocala man put up a fight with deputies arresting him for failing to register as a sex offender.

Trevor Anthony Markland, 37, of 2108 NW 46th Lane was charged with two counts of resisting an officer without violence and single counts of possession of drug equipment and failing to register as required as a sex offender. He is required to register following his 2009 conviction or lewd and lascivious battery with a victim 12-15 years old.

A pair of Marion County sheriff’s deputies responded Thursday night to Markland’s residence, where they told him they had probable cause for his arrest. Markland told the deputies he was not going to get into the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The deputies quickly reached out and grabbed Markland as he tried to get back into his home to avoid arrest. Markland dragged the deputies into the home during the process. He kept pulling his hands forward, and once the deputies got a hold of his arms, he tried to push his arms away to keep from being detained, the report said.

Once Markland was subdued and placed under arrest inside the home, deputies noticed two marijuana pipes on the table immediately to the right of where Markland was. One of the pipes had leftover residue that tested positive for marijuana, according to the report.

Markland was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he is being held on $3,000 bond. He’ll appear in Marion County Court on Jan. 19, 2021, on the failing to register charge and Feb. 3 for other charges.
