Duke Energy communications director to address public relations professionals

The Ocala Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association is preparing to hold its monthly professional development meeting in-person at the College of Central Florida and virtually via Zoom.

The meeting will be held Friday, Jan. 15 from noon-1 p.m., with in-person networking starting at 11:30 a.m. In-person attendees will follow COVID-19 protocols, including wearing masks and practicing social distancing.

The featured speaker will be Heather Danenhower, communications manager at Duke Energy and the 2020 Dick Pope All Florida Award winner. She will present a presentation titled “How Duke Energy used research to design an award-winning stakeholder engagement plan.”

Danenhower is a nationally accredited public relations professional with 22 years of experience. She oversees communications for Duke Energy’s fossil/hydro, project management and construction, environmental health and safety and water strategy, hydro licensing and lake services organizations.

Prior to her work at Duke Energy, she established and managed the Marion County Office of Public Information; served as a fire rescue spokesperson; worked as a broadcast news editor, producer and on-air reporter; and ran for political office in Alachua County.

Danenhower has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio/Television from the University of Central Florida and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Florida. She also is accredited in public relations and a certified public relations counselor.

The in-person cost for members is $20 and includes a boxed lunch and individual drink, and the virtual option is $10. The in-person cost for nonmembers is $25 and the virtual option is $15. The reservation deadline is Monday, Jan. 11. Click HERE to attend the meeting.
