Belleview man accused of trying to run down girlfriend’s father

Jesse James Enslin

A Belleview man was arrested after he allegedly tried to run over his girlfriend’s father in a vehicle in Ocala.

Jesse James Enslin, 31, of 11657 SE 55th Ave., was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. Enslin has a handful of prior arrests, including one last March for leaving the scene of an accident involving an injury, possession of marijuana and fleeing law enforcement.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy he was driving north on Pine Avenue in Ocala on Monday afternoon when he saw a black Dodge Charger speed around him. He said he looked over at the driver and recognized Enslin, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said Enslin was signaling for him to pull over, as if he wanted to talk to him. The victim said he pulled in front of a used car lot at 5900 S. Pine Ave. He said Enslin pulled over and parked in front of him, in the middle of SE 59th Street. The victim said he got out of his vehicle and started walking towards Enslin’s door. He said as he got about five to 10 feet away, Enslin got halfway out of the driver’s seat, then re-entered the vehicle, put it in reverse and sped towards him, the report said.

The victim said when Enslin stepped on the gas, the tires squealed and left burn marks on the roadway. The victim said he had to run and jump out of the way of Enslin’s vehicle to avoid being hit. He said there were no other vehicles on the roadway and Enslin had the opportunity to drive forward, according to the report.

The deputy spoke to a witness who was inside the car dealership at the time of the incident. She said she heard what sounded like an argument outside. The witness said she walked outside and saw a black Dodge car parked in the middle of SE 59th Street, with a white Ford truck (the victim’s vehicle) behind it on the shoulder of the road, the report said.

The witness said she saw the driver of the Dodge rev the engine, put the vehicle in reverse and drive towards the victim. She said, “he (the victim) was inches away from the car. I though he was going to get hit.,” according to the report.

The witness showed the deputy where the vehicles were parked. The deputy saw several burnt tire marks in the roadway. The witness said the black Dodge vehicle caused the marks, the report said.

The deputy went to Enslin’s residence, where a black Dodge Charger was in the driveway.  He knocked on the door and saw a white male look through the front window. The deputy identified the male as Enslin. A few minutes later, a white female answered the door. When the deputy asked to speak with Enslin, she said, “He’s not here.” A few minutes later, another deputy caught Enslin trying to sneak out the back door, according to the report.

While being detained in handcuffs, Enslin started spontaneously saying, “I didn’t do anything.” After being read his Miranda warning, he continued to deny leaving the residence or driving the black Dodge Charger in the driveway. The vehicle felt extremely warm, as if it had just been driven, the report said.

Enslin was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Tuesday on $2,000 bond. No court information was available.
