Special exhibit celebrating aging opens at Brick City Center in Ocala

A special Art of Aging Exhibit is on display at Brick City Center for the Arts in Ocala.

The exhibit, titled “Celebrating Aging Through Art & Education,” is a collaborative effort of Marion Senior Services and Marion Cultural Alliance that celebrates aging through art, stories and education. It will be on display at Brick City Center, located at 23 S.W. Broadway St., through May 29.

Art of Aging celebrates aging in photographs, lectures and paintings by 25 Marion Cultural Alliance member artists over the age of 55. Oversized photographs of some of Marion Senior Service’s clients, by local photographer Ralph Demilio, are the centerpiece of the exhibit.

The month-long exhibit is sponsored by Robert Boissoneault Oncology Institute and Urology Institute of Central Florida and Brookdale Senior Living.

During the month, Marion Senior Services will host the Gifts of Aging Series – free educational lunch-and-learns to promote healthy aging. RSVP to Marion Senior Services at (352) 620-3501 for the luncheon events, which will be held at noon with seating taking place at 11:30 a.m. on May 12, 19, and 26.

Below is a schedule of the lunch-and-learns:

Wednesday, May 12: Jennifer Martinez, Executive Director Marion Senior Services, “Our Existence”

  • Health is extremely important to growing older. What’s normal, what’s not, what to expect, its highs and lows, its delights and tribulations. Whether facing aging’s process or dealing with mental health problems (especially in an isolated time such as the current COVID-19 pandemic), becoming and being older isn’t always easy. But that’s why we exist: To help make things easier and help our seniors maintain their comfort and independence for as long as possible.

Wednesday, May 19: Victoria Allison, Brookdale Senior Living, “Hear the Difference”

  • We do senior living just a little bit different. From our industry-leading memory care program, which we’ve honed over more than 25 years of research-based senior care, to our assisted living plans that are fully customized for each of our residents, we provide great care for great seniors.

Wednesday, May 26: Dr. Norm Anderson, CEO, Robert Boissoneault Oncology Institute, “Nutrition and Cancer”

  • Eating right today for a successful future. Explore how your diet affects your total well-being. Receive vital information on the type of diet to eat and get tips on prevention.
