Ocala Police officers scrambled to reports of gunshots Sunday after a woman found her sliding glass door shattered.
Officers responded to a residence in the 1700 block of N.W. 21st Avenue and spoke with a resident who reported hearing at least 10 gunshots while she was lying in bed. She said she initially thought the sounds were fireworks but after discovering her shattered door, she heard a vehicle “rapidly” leaving the area, a police report states.
The resident she called police for help after finding the broken glass and a large hole in the door. Officers searched the residence for any other signs of damage but didn’t find any. They checked the outside area and located a gouge in the west-side concrete wall of the building “that was consistent with the impact of a gunshot,” the report says.
The resident who lived next door reported hearing what sounded like 10-15 firecrackers going off behind his residence. He said he didn’t hear anything else and got out of bed to get a drink when his neighbor came to check on him and tell him that her sliding glass door had been shattered.
An officer located shell casings in the parking lot of nearby Lillian Bryant Park. Officers took photos of the damage at the residence and collected the shell casings for evidence, according to the report.
