A 28-year-old Ocala man was killed this weekend after the vehicle in which he was riding was struck by a train.
The accident occurred near the intersection of SE 62nd Avenue Road and SE 101st Place at around 1 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
An SUV being driven by a 37-year-old man from Morriston was traveling north on SE 62nd Avenue Road when it attempted to cross over the train tracks at SE 101st Place.
A train was traveling north on the train tracks and struck the SUV.
The passenger, a 28-year-old man from Ocala, was pronounced deceased at the scene and the driver was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The names of the driver and passenger were not released as part of FHP policy.
