Therapeutic cooking class for individuals with disabilities on Thursday

The city of Ocala Recreation and Parks Department will host another installment of a popular therapeutic cooking class next week.

The Please Pass the Peas therapeutic cooking class is coming to the Barbara G. Washington Center (210 NW 12th Avenue) on Thursday, October 7, from 4:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The classes present an opportunity for individuals with disabilities to socialize and learn their way around the kitchen while working together to prepare a meal. Classes will also emphasize concepts such as nutrition, meal planning, budgeting and safe food handling.

Participants will have the opportunity to attend class in person or through Zoom. Zoom participants will be emailed the access code and recipe after registration.

The theme of Thursday’s class will be easy macaroni and cheese, according to a social media update from the city.

Classes are held the first Thursday of each month and participants must register one week in advance for each class. The cost to participate is $5.
