Reddick man arrested after carrying gun, ammo without concealed license

A 38-year-old Reddick man was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon without a license after a deputy found a gun and ammunition inside the man’s fanny pack.

On Sunday, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the Microtel Inns and Suites located at 1770 SW 134th Street in Ocala in reference to a domestic disturbance.

An employee told the deputy that a female victim was heard yelling for help. When the employee went to the victim’s room, the employee allegedly saw Beauregard Elliot Beard, Jr. punch the victim in the shoulder and chest area.

While the employee called law enforcement, Beard left the premises.

The deputy spoke with the victim, and the MCSO report indicated that the victim initially did not want to cooperate.

The victim stated that there was a verbal altercation with Beard, and he had grabbed her during the argument. She denied being punched by Beard.

There were slight markings on the victim’s collar bone, but the deputy was unable to determine if that was a result of a physical altercation with Beard.

Another MCSO deputy observed Beard walking east in the parking lot of the RaceTrac gas station located at 1525 SW Highway 484. Beard was carrying a fanny pack, and he admitted to the deputy that a gun was inside.

Beard stated that he got into a verbal altercation with the victim over “something stupid.” He denied punching the victim and stated the altercation was only verbal. After the incident, he left the location to calm down.

When questioned about the gun, he stated that he does not have a concealed weapons license. He told the deputy that he thought he could carry the gun in his fanny pack as long as it was not loaded.

Inside the fanny pack, the deputy found a Smith and Wesson .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun, a magazine containing six rounds that was separated from the gun, and two loose .40-caliber rounds in the bottom of the fanny pack.

Beard was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail where he is currently being held on $2,000 bond. He faces a felony charge for the unlicensed carrying of a concealed weapon and a misdemeanor charge for domestic battery.

A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
