An intoxicated 54-year-old Ocala man was arrested after shoving a woman and getting into a physical altercation with a neighbor that intervened.
On Sunday at around 3 p.m., a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to an Ocala residence in reference to a battery incident.
Upon arrival, a male victim told the deputy that he had heard commotion from a nearby residence and had walked over to investigate.
The victim observed Michael Dewayne Brumbley shoving a woman onto her back inside the residence. He told Brumbley to leave.
Brumbley allegedly approached the door and punched the male victim in the face which caused a laceration to the right of his nose. The area was bloody and swollen and the victim believed his nose had been broken.
According to the victim, Brumbley fell to the ground after throwing the punch, stood up, staggered, and nearly fell again. The victim grabbed him and led him outside into the street.
The victim again told Brumbley to leave, and Brumbley allegedly charged the victim and attempted to throw another punch. The victim avoided being hit and threw a punch of his own that struck Brumbley in the face.
After the victim continued to insist that Brumbley leave, he allegedly left the area and went home.
The deputy spoke with the woman that had allegedly been shoved. She stated that Brumbley had been drinking and she asked him to leave her residence.
Brumbley allegedly approached the woman, and she recalled being shoved to the ground. She then spotted a neighbor near the door, and she reiterated the same sequence of events that was described by the neighbor.
According to the MCSO report, the deputy met with Brumbley and he appeared intoxicated. The deputy could smell alcohol on his breath, and he was staggering all of his steps.
While Brumbley was being placed on a stretcher to receive medical treatment, he made eye contact with both victims and stated that he would be back for them.
Brumbley was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center. Once medically cleared, he was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail where he is currently being held on $5,000 bond.
He is facing several felony charges for aggravated battery and a court date has been scheduled at 9 a.m. on January 11, 2022, according to jail records.
