Dog’s barking wakes owner, alerts of mobile home fire

When a fire ignited at a mobile home in the middle of the night, a man sleeping inside was awakened by his dog’s constant barking.

On Monday at around 3 a.m., Ocala Fire Rescue responded to reports of a structure fire at a unit in the Villas at Spanish Oaks located in the 3000 block of NE 36th Avenue in Ocala.

Engines 1, 3, and 5, Rescue 3, Tower 1, Battalion Chief 22, and a Safety Officer were dispatched to the residence. The units arrived and found a mobile home with an exterior wall under a carport on fire.

Using Engine 5’s pre-connected hose line, firefighters extinguished the flames.

The owner of the mobile home and his dog were outside.

After speaking with the home’s owner, firefighters learned that his dog began barking non-stop during the night. The unusual barking woke him up, and he inspected his home to figure out why his dog was so distressed.

He was able to identify the fire, and the flames were attacked before damage extended beyond the area of origin.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is unknown.

Ocala Police Department and Marion County Fire Rescue also responded.
