A 49-year-old Ocala woman was arrested after stealing a trailer from a local Salvation Army Thrift Store.

On Sunday, January 9, an Ocala Police Department officer responded to a NW 23rd Avenue residence in Ocala in reference to a stolen trailer.

Upon arrival, the officer observed the stolen trailer which had an Illinois license plate. The trailer was hitched to a white Ford pickup truck.

According to the OPD report, Lashandra Brusha Snow approached the officer and asked if the license plate on the trailer could be checked for her.

She pointed to the trailer and requested information on the trailer’s owner. When asked why she needed this information, Snow stated that she had borrowed the trailer.

Snow told the officer that the trailer’s owner had “left it unattended” and she stated that she had “a very important job to do.”

Snow claimed that she left a note stating that she would “put the trailer right back,” and she wanted to contact the trailer’s owner to see if they would sell it to her.

She claimed to have seen the trailer for the past three weeks and believed that the owners would not come back for it, so she told the officer that she took the trailer before someone else stole it.

The officer indicated in the OPD report that Snow had a large scrapping job in Ocklawaha and her trailer was not in working condition. She told the officer that she left her name and phone number on a piece of wood along with a message that requested for the owner to call her regarding the trailer.

Snow mentioned that she was going to take the trailer to OPD on her way back from Ocklawaha to see if an officer could give her the owner’s information.

During an OPD investigation, it was determined that the trailer was stolen from the Salvation Army Thrift Store located at 120 NW 10th Street.

Snow was arrested, transported to Marion County Jail, and later released on her own recognizance. She is facing felony charges for grand theft of a motor vehicle and burglary of an occupied structure along with a misdemeanor charge for petit theft.

A court date has been scheduled on Tuesday, February 15 at 9 a.m., according to jail records.
