City of Ocala announces paid internship program for high school students

The City of Ocala is looking for local high school students to participate in a paid internship program over the summer.

The interns will work with the Engineering and Water Resources departments to experience serving the community through a career in government.

The internship program is open to 11th and 12th grade students, and each intern will receive on-the-job training and experience in an office environment.

Students interested in becoming an intern must submit their applications no later than 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 17. Qualified applicants will be interviewed in April and selected interns will be notified in May.

While the work schedules begin on Tuesday, June 7 and end on Thursday, July 28, the exact schedule for each intern will be contingent on their school schedule.

The proposed hourly rate is $10 per hour and interns will be expected to work 28 hours per week. There will be four six-hour shifts each week during the program.

According to the city, this is a one-time program per intern.

Applications are available on the City of Ocala Water Resources and Engineering internship program webpage.
