Marion County middle and high school students will be competing during the upcoming Big Springs Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Fair.

The competing projects will be on display for the public on Thursday, February 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the Circle Square Cultural Center (8395 SW 80th Street in Ocala).

An award ceremony will take place on Friday, February 4 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Brownie Greaton Cole Auditorium at Marion Technical Institute (1614 SE Fort King Street in Ocala).

This annual fair attracts student scientists from Marion and Sumter counties to compete using scientific approaches that could potentially solve world problems. Winners from public, private, charter, and home schools advance to this regional level to engage in scientific battles for cash awards ranging from $50 to $500, medals, and various locally donated prizes.

Regional winners will advance to the Florida State Science Fair on Tuesday, March 29 through Thursday, March 31 in Lakeland.

The four highest-ranked Marion County high school finalists from the Big Springs STEM Fair will proceed to the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair on Saturday, May 7 through Friday, May 13 in Atlanta.
