Reddick resident states Ocala/Marion County turning into ‘Trash Capital of the World’

To the Editor:

You do not have to look far to realize “The Horse Capital of the World” is quickly becoming the “Trash Capital of the World.”

I am originally from a state where its roads and byways are beautifully maintained not only by its county governments but by incentive programs encouraging private individuals to collect cash for picking up bottles and cans, etc., and turning them into recycling centers.

I stand with Marion County citizens in coming forward to indicate how tired we are with individuals showing a lack of respect for others and the beautiful community we live in by throwing their litter alongside our roadways, parking lots, and on other people’s personal property. This is a problem totally out of control and growing worse daily.

By ignoring the county’s trash problem, what kind of message are you sending to our vacation travelers, potential business startups considering locating here, as well as to the very people of your own community? It is time for Marion County to step up and stop the horrible pollution of the county. Stop driving by it, looking the other way, assuming it is someone else’s problem. It is yours and ours, and it does not have to be. It is time to own up to it. It is a horrible eyesore. Marion County needs to act to do something and act now.
