City of Ocala hosting therapeutic cooking class for individuals with disabilities next week

The City of Ocala Recreation and Parks Department is hosting another installment of a popular therapeutic cooking class next week.

The ‘Please Pass the Peas’ cooking class is coming to the Barbara Gaskin Washington Adult Activity Center (210 NW 12th Avenue) on Thursday, March 3 at 4:15 p.m.

The classes present an opportunity for individuals with disabilities to socialize and learn their way around the kitchen while working together to prepare a meal. Classes will also emphasize concepts such as nutrition, meal planning, budgeting, and safe food handling.

The theme of next week’s class is ‘refried bean burrito,’ according to a social media update from the city.

Participants will have the opportunity to attend the class in person or through Zoom. Each Zoom participant will receive an email after registration which will include the access code and recipe. There is a $5 fee per class.
