Marion County Public Library System inviting residents to offer name suggestions for new library

The Marion County Public Library System is looking for the public’s help with naming the new library that will be built inside the Mary Sue Rich Community Center at Reed Place.

The 41,750-square-foot community center is currently under construction on the northwest side of Ocala near the Ocala Wetland Recharge Park. The community center is scheduled to open in the fall and will serve as a community hub for northwest Marion County.

In addition to the library, the community center will have banquet space, fitness equipment, an indoor walking track, two basketball courts, and several multipurpose rooms.

The community center, which is named after former Ocala City Councilwoman Mary Sue Rich, is being built on the site of the former Royal Oak Charcoal Plant that was demolished in 2018.

One of the amenities inside the new community center will be a Marion County Public Library branch. At the Marion County Board of County Commissioners meeting on December 21, 2021, the commissioners approved a motion to move forward with naming the library branch. A naming committee will present up to three names to the county administrator for final approval.

The Marion County Public Library System is accepting name suggestions from the public. If anyone has an idea for a name, please contact Julie Sieg, Marion County Public Library System director, at 352-368-4500 or via email: [email protected]
