More residents across Marion County wrote in and shared their thoughts on the topic of bringing commercial flights to Ocala International Airport.
“The area around the Ocala International Airport and Dunnellon’s airport is surrounded by large residential communities. The airport runways would have to be long enough to accommodate jets. Where are the flight paths going to be located? We have enough noise in Ocala as it is. I don’t want a flight pattern right above my home when jets are going to have to come in low. I say no to commercial jet,” says On Top of the World resident Linda Hill.
“It really would be great to get an actual airport here in Ocala. I get tired of going to Orlando every time my friends and family come to visit. Since we are paying for it, make it worth our while,” says Iris Donaldson, Ocala resident.
“Those of us who came here for the lovely horse farms, the natural beauty of springs and trees, and the quiet and peace, we are appalled at the greed-fueled destruction of our once-lovely community. While your editorial push has been overtly ‘pave-it-all,’ we view you with dread for your one-sided push to destroy our community. We do not want a commercial airport. We do not want more high density buildings that kill our natural splendor. We have something rare and precious, and we don’t want it debased and destroyed. No commercial airport – it brings crime. No big roads – they bring more crime. No to high density developments – why replace diamonds with plastic? Why destroy something beautiful because of the sins of your greed?” says Ocklawaha resident X. Su Zi.
“So, let me understand. We, as citizens in Marion County, pay a tax that supports a so-called International Airport, and we don’t have access to it? We travel every year to see our kids and grandkids, and it would be great to only have to drive out to 60th Avenue. That would take a big burden off our shoulders. But if I’m paying a tax for this, I definitely want access. I’m not going to support something just for the rich. That’s crap as far as I’m concerned,” says Richard Spaans, Ocala resident.
