A Dollar General employee was arrested after she assisted two suspects with the theft of nearly $1,100 worth of merchandise.

On Monday at around 3:55 p.m., a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the Dollar General located at 12911 NE Jacksonville Road in Anthony in reference to an employee theft incident.

Upon arrival, a store manager told the deputy that an employee, identified as Amy Nichole Rankin, had assisted two unknown individuals with a grand theft that had occurred the previous day between the hours of 8:23 and 10:23 a.m.

The deputy observed the store’s video surveillance footage from the time of the incident which showed two suspects, a man and woman, who were loading shopping carts with miscellaneous items.

When the suspects approached the cash register, the deputy observed Rankin as she scanned a beverage, and the male suspect paid for that item. Both suspects then proceeded to walk out of the store with the shopping carts, which were filled with the unpaid merchandise.

The store manager handed the deputy a receipt that showed the various items to be worth a total of $1,095.95.

After viewing the surveillance footage, the deputy spoke with Rankin. She said the male suspect, who she knew as “Robert,” had contacted her from a blocked number and had requested assistance with stealing some items. She informed the deputy that she agreed to assist with the theft.

Rankin was arrested, transported to Marion County Jail, and she was later released on $3,000 bond. She is facing a felony charge for grand theft (less than $5,000).

A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
