Ocala resident says growth is threatening city’s beautiful pastures

To the Editor:

We moved from rural Texas to this area to be closer to family. To my dismay, posted over CR 484 and 140 are signs for the Florida Turnpike/Sunshine Parkway extension. The beautiful pastures with horses and cows are being threatened with so-called paved progress.

At some point, Marion county needs to realize that the growth this road brings will destroy hundreds of acres of horse and farm land while not providing any benefit to local residents. The anticipated visitors will no longer come to our area to visit the parks, but rather continue north to less congested areas of our state.

Please rethink allowing our beautiful rolling pastures to remain untouched by this road that offers nothing but destructive intrusion to our area. Our uniqueness remains in the rural setting. Let’s keep it that way for future generations.
