License-free saltwater, freshwater fishing weekends returning this month

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is inviting residents and visitors to go fishing in Florida during two license-free weekends in June.

During this upcoming weekend, on June 4 and 5, license requirements will be waived for freshwater fishing. During the following weekend, on June 11 and 12, saltwater fishing will be license-free.

The saltwater waiver applies to any recreational harvest that requires a saltwater fishing license (crabbing, lobstering, scalloping, etc.) as well as fishing from the shore or a boat. A snook or spiny lobster permit are also not required on these license-free days, according to FWC.

The license-free fishing days provide an opportunity for anyone who does not have a fishing license to experience fishing, and it allows avid anglers to introduce a friend or family member to fishing without having to purchase a license. On these days, the fishing license requirement will be waived for all recreational anglers, including residents and non-residents.

According to FWC, all other rules such as seasons, bag, and size limits will still apply.
