Man killed, five others injured, after pickup truck runs red light in Citrus County

A 47-year-old man from Trenton was killed on Monday afternoon, and five others were injured, after a pickup truck ran a red light in Citrus County.

At approximately 3 p.m., the Trenton man was traveling northbound on U.S. 19, just south of W Dunnellon Road, in a pickup truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

At the same time, a second pickup truck being driven by a 65-year-old man from Ocala was heading westbound on W Dunnellon Road. At the intersection, the driver of the second pickup truck turned left under a green traffic signal just as the first pickup truck drove through a red light.

The FHP report indicated that the first pickup truck collided with the left side of the second pickup truck. After the impact, both vehicles rotated and came to a final rest within the intersection.

The driver of the first pickup truck sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The vehicle’s passenger, a 48-year-old woman from Trenton, sustained serious injuries in the accident.

The second pickup truck’s driver and three passengers, a 63-year-old woman from Ocala, a 75-year-old man from Careywood, Idaho, and a 65-year-old woman from Careywood, Idaho, all sustained minor injuries.

The names of the individuals involved in the accident were not released by FHP.
