Ocala resident voices concerns on red light runners, drivers not yielding to emergency vehicles

To the Editor:

I, too, have noticed a lot of people running traffic lights when red. There are two kinds of drivers: ones who run traffic lights and ones who sit at a green light on their cellphones.

I don’t see many young people on their phones so much as those who are over 50 years old. They have gotten inventive and are buying stuff to stick on their windshields that will hold their phones and hang down in front of their face. It has to be blocking their view.

And ambulance drivers, my heart goes out to you guys. People will not give you the right of way. You can hear sirens from a long way off, and watch – people just will not move.

I would love to see cameras in, or on, ambulances to record those people. Then they would get tickets in the mail for not yielding the right of way to an emergency vehicle.
