Driver killed, 4 passengers seriously injured in single-vehicle crash near Cannon Farms in Dunnellon

A 27-year-old driver was killed and four passengers were seriously injured after their sedan crashed into a gate and several trees near the intersection of SW 180th Avenue and SW Highway 484 in Dunnellon on Saturday evening.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report, the sedan was traveling southbound on SW 180th Avenue at approximately 8:30 p.m. The driver, a 27-year-old woman from Homosassa, continued heading southbound at the intersection of SW Highway 484, and the vehicle drove onto the private driveway of Cannon Farms.

The FHP report states that the front of the sedan struck a gate in the driveway. The vehicle then proceeded to collide with several fence posts and trees before coming to a final rest on the farm’s limerock private driveway.

The driver of the sedan was pronounced deceased at 8:47 p.m. by a Marion County Fire Rescue lieutenant. The vehicle’s four passengers, ranging in age from 18 to 25, were transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital in serious condition.

The occupants of the vehicle were not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, according to FHP.

The names of the driver and passengers were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
