Marion County Parks and Recreation hosting kayak trip to Chassahowitzka River

The Marion County Parks and Recreation Department’s monthly kayaking program will continue next week with a leisurely trip down the Chassahowitzka River, and registration is now open.

The event, which is part of the Kayak & Koffee series, will take place on Friday, December 9. Participants will meet at Brick City Adventure Park (1211 SE 22nd Road in Ocala) at 7:45 a.m., and transportation will then be provided to the river.

Paddlers will enjoy a relaxing five-mile-long ride on the water with the chance to see many different animals, including manatees. After returning to land, participants will enjoy light refreshments and coffee.

The event is open to anyone ages 15 and up, and beginners are welcome.

There is a $50 fee per participant, and all kayaks and gear will be provided. This fee will be lowered to $25 for any participants who bring their own equipment, according to the Marion County Parks and Recreation Department.

For more information, or to sign up, visit the Marion County Parks and Recreation Department’s Kayak & Koffee event webpage or call 352-671-8560.
