‘Unmasked: The Art of Lisa Russo’ exhibit opens this week in Ocala

A brand-new fine art exhibit by local artist Lisa Russo will soon be on display at the Brick City Center for the Arts in Ocala.

On Friday, March 3, Marion Cultural Alliance will host an opening reception for “Unmasked: The Art of Lisa Russo” from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Brick City Center for the Arts, which is located at 23 SW Broadway Street.

“An unfolding mystery and an alluring sensuality mark the paintings of Lisa Russo,” stated Marion Cultural Alliance in a press release. Russo’s paintings are heavily influenced by the technique and style of 16th-Century Baroque artists, and her subjects vary from “passionate encounters to flights of fantasy.”

Russo’s strength in painting the human figure comes from her travels and the extensive study of various classical paintings. MCA stated that the combination of fantasy and sensuality in Russo’s work “creates an intrigue that borders on the scandalous.”

“Unmasked: The Art of Lisa Russo” is suitable for mature audiences due to some nudity that is depicted in different artistic forms.

The exhibit’s opening reception will kick off with a special event for MCA members from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Guests will enjoy light refreshments, drinks, and a chance to meet Russo.

The public will then be invited to stop by the gallery to view the new exhibit during the City of Ocala’s retro-inspired First Friday Art Walk from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The exhibit will remain on display at the Brick City Center for the Arts through Saturday, March 25 during regular gallery hours: Monday through Friday (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and Saturday (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
