‘Upcycled: Turning Waste Into Wonder’ art exhibit opens in Ocala this week

A new mixed-media art exhibit featuring Marion Cultural Alliance artists will soon be on display at the Brick City Center for the Arts in Ocala.

The exhibit, “Upcycled: Turning Waste Into Wonder,” will feature 50 local and regional artists displaying works that were created from repurposed, recycled, and/or found objects and materials. Each of the participating artists upcycled and re-imagined different types of materials to create artwork that is “visually satisfying and thought-provoking,” according to MCA.

On Friday, April 7, MCA will host an opening reception for the exhibit from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Brick City Center for the Arts, which is located at 23 SW Broadway Street. This reception is open to MCA members, artists, and patrons only, and it will include light refreshments, drinks, and a chance to meet the artists. Those who are interested in attending must RSVP.

Immediately following the opening reception, the gallery will open to the general public during the First Friday Art Walk in downtown Ocala from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“Upcycled: Turning Waste Into Wonder” will remain on display at the Brick City Center for the Arts through Saturday, April 29, during regular gallery hours: Monday through Friday (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and Saturday (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
