Man ejected, killed after SUV overturns on SR 24

A 32-year-old man from Archer died early Sunday morning after his SUV overturned on State Road 24 in Alachua County.

At approximately 1:10 a.m., the man was traveling westbound on SW Archer Road (State Road 24), near the intersection of SW 73rd Avenue, in a Toyota 4Runner. The vehicle was “swerving from lane to lane,” and it veered onto the north grass shoulder, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

FHP stated that the man oversteered, which caused the SUV to travel back onto the westbound lane. The vehicle then crossed the eastbound lane, traveled onto the south grass shoulder, and overturned.

The driver and sole occupant of the SUV was ejected during the crash, and the vehicle came to a final rest on the south grass shoulder. The man sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver’s name has not been released pending notification of next of kin, according to the FHP report.
