A driver and passenger were hospitalized on Monday afternoon after their SUV crashed into a semi-truck at an intersection in Marion County.
At 3:36 p.m., Marion County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to the intersection of W Highway 318 and N U.S. Highway 441 due to reports of a motor vehicle accident involving an SUV and a semi-truck. According to MCFR, multiple 911 callers advised that there were individuals who were entrapped in the SUV.
Within minutes, MCFR Orange Lake Engine #9 arrived on scene. Crews established command, shut down W Highway 318 near the intersection, and verified that the SUV’s driver was entrapped. Additional MCFR units arrived at the scene of the crash to provide patient care and assist with extricating the driver.
Firefighters moved quickly and extricated the driver of the SUV. According to MCFR, the driver was transported to a local hospital as a trauma alert, and the vehicle’s passenger was also hospitalized for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
No additional injuries were reported. The names, ages, and genders of the individuals involved in the accident were not released.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
