Bicyclist dies after being struck by car in Ocala

A man riding a bicycle was killed on Tuesday night after he was struck by a car in northeast Ocala.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report, a sedan was traveling westbound on NE 35th Street, near the intersection of NE 16th Court, shortly before 10:10 p.m. At the same time, the bicyclist was heading east in the westbound lane of NE 35th Street.

FHP stated that the driver of the sedan, a 17-year-old boy from Ocala, was unable to see the bicyclist on the roadway, and the front of the vehicle proceeded to hit the bicyclist. After the collision, the driver relocated the car to the side of the road.

According to FHP, the bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene. His age was not listed in the report.

The car’s driver and three passengers – a 21-year-old man, 20-year-old woman, and 16-year-old boy, all from Orange Park – were not injured in the accident. Their names were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
