A 55-year-old man was arrested in Marion County after a woman accused him of slashing her car’s tires with a knife and running after her vehicle as she attempted to drive away.
On Friday, April 14, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the 14600 block of SE 182nd Avenue Road in Umatilla in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival, the deputy located Gerald Glenn Calhoun, Sr. walking northbound near the 14700 block, according to the arrest report.
Calhoun was detained by the deputy and placed in the backseat of an MCSO patrol car. He informed the deputy that he was in possession of a pocketknife.
The deputy made contact with the female victim who stated that she had stopped by Calhoun’s residence located in the 20800 block of SE 141st Lane to drop off some of his clothing. She advised that she parked her car in the driveway and attempted to place the bag of clothing into Calhoun’s vehicle without having any contact with him, according to the MCSO report.
The victim advised that Calhoun walked out of the residence shortly after she exited her vehicle. She stated that Calhoun was “highly upset,” and he began calling her names and yelling at her. He then approached her vehicle as she was standing in front of it, and he pulled out a pocketknife.
According to the victim, Calhoun “popped” both tires on the driver’s side of her vehicle. She told the deputy that she entered her vehicle as Calhoun walked towards the back of the vehicle to get to the other side.
The victim informed the deputy that she reversed her car out of the driveway. When she began driving away, she stated that Calhoun began to chase after her with the knife “still in his hand in an aggressive manner,” according to the MCSO report.
The deputy noted that the victim feared for her life during the incident due to Calhoun’s aggressive behavior. The victim also stated that she was afraid because she was unable to quickly drive away due to the condition of her car’s tires.
When the victim approached the end of the road, she stated that Calhoun put away the knife and began sending her text messages from his cellphone. According to the victim, Calhoun ran after her car for approximately one mile until she pulled over at the 14600 block of SE 182nd Avenue Road.
The MCSO report stated that the estimated damage to the victim’s car tires was approximately $400.
A computer check of Calhoun revealed that he has an active warrant out of Lake County for violation of an injunction. He is also on active felony probation out of Lake County for kidnapping.
The deputy made contact with Calhoun. After being read his Miranda rights, Calhoun admitted that he approached the victim and started talking to her shortly after she had pulled into the driveway. Calhoun further advised that he became upset with the victim due to her not returning money that was owed to him, according to the MCSO report.
Calhoun admitted that he pulled out a pocketknife and began slashing the victim’s tires. When the victim started to drive away, he claimed that he ran after her vehicle because she still owed him money. He denied chasing after the victim while the knife was in his hand.
Calhoun was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail where he is currently being held on $15,000 bond. He is facing a felony charge for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and a misdemeanor charge for criminal mischief with property damage over $200 but under $1,000.
A court date has been scheduled at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16, according to jail records.
