Woman killed after car runs red light on State Road 200

A 33-year-old woman from Dunnellon died on Thursday night after a car ran a red light and struck her vehicle in Marion County.

Shortly before 9:55 p.m., a 23-year-old Ocala woman was traveling eastbound on State Road 200, near the intersection of SW 110th Street. At the same time, the 33-year-old Dunnellon woman was heading northbound in a car on SW 110th Street from the Oak Run subdivision, and she was approaching a green traffic signal at the intersection, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

FHP stated that the Ocala woman proceeded to run a red light at the intersection, and the front left section of her car struck the left side of the Dunnellon woman’s vehicle. After the impact, the eastbound lanes of State Road 200 were temporarily obstructed.

Both drivers were transported to local hospitals for medical treatment. The Dunnellon woman sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at HCA Florida Ocala Hospital, according to the FHP report.

The Ocala woman sustained minor injuries in the crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal accident. The names of the drivers involved were not released.
