Motorcyclist dies four days after NE Ocala crash

A 66-year-old motorcyclist died on Sunday from injuries that were sustained in a crash in northeast Ocala earlier in the week.

On Wednesday, May 17, at approximately 10:55 a.m., a pickup truck was traveling northbound on NE 25th Avenue, near the intersection of State Road 326, in Ocala. At the same time, a 66-year-old man from Ocklawaha was riding his motorcycle on State Road 326, and he was traveling eastbound near the same intersection, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

FHP stated that the pickup truck approached the stop sign at the intersection, and the driver – identified in the report as a 61-year-old Citra man – failed to observe the oncoming motorcycle. The pickup truck proceeded to travel into the path of the motorcycle, which struck the left rear section of the truck.

After the collision, the motorcycle overturned on the roadway, and the rider was thrown from the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, according to FHP.

The motorcyclist later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital on Sunday, May 21.

The driver of the pickup truck and his passenger, an 83-year-old woman from Citra, were not injured in the crash.

The names of the drivers and passenger involved in the accident were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
