A 38-year-old man was arrested by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office after he allegedly attempted to carjack a nurse’s vehicle outside of HCA North Florida Hospital.
On Monday, June 26, ACSO deputies responded to the hospital located at 6500 W Newberry Road in Gainesville in reference to an attempted carjacking incident. Upon arrival, they made contact with a nurse who advised that a man had attempted to steal her vehicle while she was on her lunch break, according to a social media post from the sheriff’s office.
The nurse told deputies that a man, later identified as Deontay Breshaun Richardson, approached her vehicle while she was inside and demanded that she open the door.
According to the nurse, Richardson claimed that he had a gun, and he attempted to open the back door of the nurse’s vehicle. She advised that she “leaned on her horn” until Richardson eventually left the parking lot.
The sheriff’s office stated that Richardson had just been discharged from HCA North Florida Hospital prior to the attempted carjacking incident.
An ACSO deputy was patrolling the area when Richardson was spotted at the Circle K gas station located at 7501 W Newberry Road. He was detained in handcuffs, and the victim positively identified him as the man who had tried to steal her vehicle.
Richardson was arrested and transported to Alachua County Jail where he is currently being held on $100,000 bond. He is facing a felony charge for attempted carjacking.
