Ocala Electric Utility to celebrate Public Power Week with free event

Ocala Electric Utility is inviting the local community to attend its annual Customer Appreciation Day event on Friday, October 6, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Citizens’ Circle located at 151 SE Osceola Avenue.

The event is free and open to the public, and it will commemorate Public Power Week (October 1 through October 7). During the two-hour event, attendees will enjoy free food, live entertainment, family-friendly activities, and more.

Founded in 1898, Ocala Electric Utility is a locally owned and operated utility that “remains committed to its original mission of providing dependable, cost-effective, and secure power to its customers,” according to a press release from the City of Ocala.

In addition, OEU “strives to create a sustainable future while delivering customer-centric service to the community.” According to the city, this entails working closely with customers and community leaders to ensure that the utility aligns with the long-term goals and needs of the community.

Immediately following the Customer Appreciation Day festivities on October 6, the City of Ocala Recreation and Parks Department will host an “After Dark in the Park” screening of the PG-rated 2012 animated film Hotel Transylvania on the outdoor movie screen at Citizens’ Circle from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The movie screening is free and open to the public, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets.

Ocala Electric Utility has 21 substations located within a 160-square-mile territory, and crews maintain over 1,200 miles of power lines and 47,786 power poles. OEU services over 54,000 households and businesses within Ocala and surrounding Marion County.
