Young Artist Competition returns to Reilly Arts Center this weekend

The Young Artist Competition will return to the Reilly Arts Center this weekend to showcase eight finalists who are vying for a cash prize and an opportunity to perform with the Ocala Symphony Orchestra.

The 33rd installment of the annual competition will begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 14 at the Reilly Arts Center, which is located at 500 NE 9th Street in Ocala. This year’s Honors Recital will feature the following young artists:

Junior Division

  • 16-year-old Elyse Schlesinger (horn) will perform Concerto No. 1 in G minor, I. by Max Bruch.
  • 17-year-old Matthew Phan (piano) will perform Concerto No. 2 in C minor, III. by Sergei Rachmaninoff
  • 17-year-old Quang Vo (piano) will perform Piano Concerto No. 1, III. & IV. by Franz Liszt.
  • 14-year-old Regine Lee (violin) will perform Concerto No. 1 in G minor, I. by Max Bruch.

Senior Division

  • 25-year-old Anne Elise Teeling (soprano) will perform “O luce di quest’anima” by Gaetano Donizetti.
  • 20-year-old Caroline Dratnal (piano) will perform Piano Concerto in A minor, I. by Edvard Grieg.
  • 19-year-old Elizabeth Milan (violin) will perform Violin Concerto in D Major, I. by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
  • 25-year-old Michael Isaac Ripple (oboe) will perform Oboe Concerto in One Movement by Eugene Goossens.

The Young Artist Competition is designed to motivate, encourage, and enhance the musical careers of outstanding young musicians from across the country, according to the Ocala Symphony Orchestra.

The division winners will be announced at the recital, and both winners will get to perform their concerto with the Ocala Symphony Orchestra during “Bold Brahms” at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 24 at the Reilly Arts Center.

In addition to sharing the stage with the orchestra, the winners will also receive a cash prize of $1,800, which will be presented as a check at the Honors Recital.

Tickets for the Young Artist Competition: Honors Recital are available and cost $10 per person. Ocala Symphony subscribers will be able to attend the event for free.
