92-year-old driver fatally strikes Morriston bicyclist in Levy County

A 74-year-old bicyclist from Morriston was killed on Tuesday morning after she was struck by a pickup truck in Levy County.

At around 10:40 a.m., a 92-year-old man (driver) and 67-year-old-woman (passenger) from Gulf Hammock were traveling eastbound on SE County Road 326, near Wolf Arbor Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

FHP stated that the Morriston woman was riding a bicycle eastbound on SE County Road 326, and she was ahead of the pickup truck.

For reasons that are unknown, the pickup truck’s driver failed to see the bicyclist within the eastbound travel lane, and the right front of the vehicle collided with the rear of the bicycle.

After the collision, the bicyclist was ejected onto the nearby grass shoulder. She sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The report stated that she was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The two occupants of the pickup truck were not injured.

The names of the individuals involved in the crash were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
