HCA Florida Ocala, West Marion Hospitals among nation’s Top 50 cardiovascular hospitals

HCA Florida Ocala Hospital and HCA Florida West Marion Hospital were recently recognized as being among the Top 50 cardiovascular hospitals in the nation.

Both hospitals received this recognition following an independent quality analysis based on a balanced scorecard provided by PINC AI, the technology and services brand of Premier, Inc. (NASDAQ: PINC), and reported by Fortune.

The PINC AI “50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitalsprogram is based on objective, quantitative analysis of publicly available data, and it aims to inspire hospital and health system leaders to pursue higher performance while delivering added value to patients and communities.

Compared to peer hospitals, those in the Top 50 operated at lower cost and recorded better outcomes, including significantly higher inpatient survival rates, fewer patients with complications, lower readmission rates, and nearly $10,000 in cost savings per patient case.

“The team at HCA Florida Ocala Hospital and HCA Florida West Marion Hospital are honored to be recognized by PINC AI as one of the nation’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals,” stated Alan Keesee, CEO of HCA Florida Ocala Hospital. “This is a testament to the high level of care our cardiac teams provide to our patients and the innovative care we provide to the Ocala and broader Marion County communities.”

This announcement comes just weeks after HCA Florida Ocala Hospital and HCA Florida West Marion Hospital were ranked No. 1 in Florida for joint replacement, orthopedic surgery, spine surgery, vascular surgery and surgical care in 2024, according to new research released by Healthgrades.

In addition, both HCA Florida Ocala Hospital and HCA Florida West Marion Hospital are also among the Top 250 hospitals in the U.S for hospital quality in 2024.

These achievements place HCA Florida Ocala Hospital and HCA Florida West Marion Hospital in the top 5% of hospitals nationwide for overall clinical performance. According to HCA Florida Healthcare, this reflects the commitment of both hospitals to exceptional patient care, distinguishing them as being among the state’s leading healthcare providers for specialty care.

Leigh Anderson, Premier’s Chief Operating Officer and the leader of PINC AI, stated that hospital and health system leaders are focused on increasing the quality and value of cardiovascular care.

“A selection as one of the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals is a great honor and demonstrates the importance of hospitals tackling cardiovascular disease – one of America’s leading causes of death,” said Anderson. “As one of the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals, HCA Florida Ocala Hospital has achieved high-quality cardiovascular care that has directly led to significantly improved patient outcomes, with fewer re-admissions and complications.”

According to the study’s analysis, if all hospitals operated at the level of this year’s top performers, there could be 7,600 fewer deaths due to heart disease, 6,700 fewer bypass and angioplasty patients who suffer complications, and more than $1 billion in inpatient cost savings during the study year.

HCA Florida Healthcare physicians perform more than 115,000 cardiovascular-related procedures every year and are currently participating in approximately 30 cardiovascular clinical trials. For more information about HCA Florida Healthcare’s cardiovascular programs, click here.
