Ethel Amelia (Smallwood) Dampier peacefully passed away February 20, 2024, with a sister and a friend by her bedside. Amelia has now found rest after a long battle against Alzheimer’s Dementia. She was born to Burland and Mildred Smallwood on August 28, 1932, in Gulf Hammock, FL and had resided in Ocala since the mid 1990’s.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Major Donald B. Smallwood.

Left to cherish her memories are her 7 remaining siblings: Maxine Sharpe, Fernandina Beach, FL; Sarah Varnum, Cincinnati, OH; Lugene Schinagel, Fernandina Beach, FL; Joann Starr, Okemah, OK; Abby McGehee, Monticello, FL; Carl Smallwood and Howard (Hank) Smallwood, Ocala, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear church friends.

Amelia was born and raised in Gulf Hammock and graduated from Bronson High School as Salutatorian of her class. At the age of 18 she moved to Jacksonville, FL, and attended Massey Business School of Stenography. She spent time in Germany and France and worked at the Pentagon while living in Arlington, VA. Her favorite pastimes were fishing and gardening.

A Home-Going Service will be held at her home church, Ocala Church, in Ocala, FL, 2940 NE 35th Street, on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.
