As the new Buc-ee’s coming to Ocala progresses towards its eventual opening in several years, readers across the area are sharing opinions about the project. Here are a few of those letters:
“Having a Buc-ee’s is far better than having hundreds and hundreds of our majestic oaks destroyed and wild life obliterated for the sake of building thousands of new homes with people living like sardines on zero lot lines. Oh, the choices being made.” – Betty Kramer, Ocala
“I’m so glad that it’s still on. I came from Texas and it helps the economy, plus the food is something else.” – Francis Milner, Ocala
“Wow! So, Buc-ee’s went from an original opening of 2026 to the earliest of 2029? How slow can you go? Some people will have unfortunately died or moved away by the time it opens here!” – Rob Robinson, Ocala
“Good God. Tentatively to open between 2029-2031. 7 to 8 years since we’ve first heard about it in April 2023. While other cities in Florida have them built and open. Daytona was less than 4 years. St. Augustine less than 3 years. All the while, the city approves multiple housing developments to be built all over the city. Also multiple road and highway construction, without any problems. While all of us hard-working tax payers pay for it. Now they have to review it. For what? Why should it take so long? Is it because someone didn’t line their pockets or fatten their bank accounts enough.? This city loves to waste taxpayers’ money, but only if they get a nice piece of it. I think Buc-ee’s should say goodbye. Sell the land back and move on. They should never have to wait” – Terry Mers, Ocala
