Three injured after ambulance collides head-on with car in Marion County

A head-on collision involving a Marion County Fire Rescue ambulance sent three people to the hospital on Tuesday morning.

At around 8:55 a.m., the Marion County Fire Rescue crew members on board the ambulance notified dispatch that they had struck a red passenger vehicle, and there were injuries on scene. According to MCFR, the accident occurred near the intersection of SW Highway 484 and SW 83rd Avenue Road in Marion County.

Additional MCFR units arrived at the scene of the crash shortly after 9 a.m. and observed that the ambulance and red car were on the side of the road.

MCFR stated that the driver of the car was entrapped in the wreckage, and firefighters immediately began the extrication process. The driver was freed from the vehicle at 9:23 a.m., and they were rushed to a local trauma hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

The ambulance’s two occupants, a firefighter/paramedic and firefighter/EMT, were evaluated on scene and transported to a local hospital with “non-life-threatening” injuries.

The roadway near the site of the accident was temporarily closed on Tuesday morning, but it has since been reopened.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
