A 28-year-old Gainesville woman traveling on Interstate 75 was killed on Thursday night after her SUV veered off the roadway, struck several trees, and caught on fire.
The fatal single-vehicle crash occurred at around 10:30 p.m. on I-75, near mile marker 392, in Alachua County.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the woman was heading southbound on the interstate when her SUV, a 2023 Nissan Rogue, veered off the roadway.
Moments later, the SUV traveled onto the west grass shoulder before crashing into several trees. After the collision, the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames.
The SUV’s driver and sole occupant sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her name was not released by FHP.
A trooper noted in the report that it is unknown if the woman was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
